I undertake both local and family history research. In fact as long as it has a link with Suffolk, I will attempt to trace the history of any person, property, place or event. I have lived in East Suffolk all my life so I know the locality ‘like the back of my hand’. Equally I understand the local dialect, something that can be of value when deciphering old phonetically written parish registers etc.

My research experience has covered from pauper to nobility; manorial records to court rolls; as well as census, parish registers, deeds, quarter sessions, poor law, tithes and probate sources. I can transcribe old English writings, and basic Latin.

While most of my research is carried out at the three Suffolk Record Offices, I do also visit both Norfolk and Essex Record Offices, where I am also willing to carry out research

[Sorry no Military]

I am happy to undertake a single event search or a complete study of the family line; nothing is too small or large.

I will also undertake onsite research, such as churchyard visits, building location, or parish surveying. Digital photography of such as gravestones, properties, village scenes have become a speciality. Photographs can be supplied as digital, on Cd, or prints, which can be of basic Epson printer or superior quality depending on your requirements. For the ultimate keepsake, they can be of 150 year fade resistant ink

On the genealogy aspect, I can produce computer type print outs in a number of tree formats and styles.

For new clients I ask for payment with request, thereafter I will work to an agreed limited overdraft. Cheques should be payable to Ray Whitehand. please. Thank you. Sorry as yet no credit card facilities or online transactions.

For further information and costings please forward details of the research required to:
