Chapter nine identifies the 170 parish workhouses in Suffolk.

FROM POTASH TO PEAR TREES

A chronicle of 2 Potash Cottages Pettistree.

Formerly a labourers cottage, and home of the author’s family from 1946 to 1988. the volume takes you back to the origins of the cottage in the mid 18th century. There is a brief explanation of the 18th century industry of potash manufacturing, after which the cottages were named. The volume then details the evolvement of the property and its owners throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Before bringing things right up to date with living memories of life in the village in the second half of the twentieth century.
Throughout the study the sources from which all information was gleaned is identified, which makes this a valuable read for anyone with interests in Pettistree or those thinking about researching their own home.

The 1842 Tithe map and apportionment:
Here the tithe map has been broken into 15 x ½ page sections of the original map, followed by a full transcription of the Tithe apportionment, with an additional section which identifies 21st century addresses of the properties.
